Donna Jane Gilbert, age 76, died on Friday, June 12, 2009, in Gulfport.
The beloved wife of the late Gerald Gilbert of Melbourne, FL; loving mother of Laurence (Chantil) Gilbert of Gainesville, FL and Mrs. Romia (Jim) Meints of Gulfport, MS.
She is also survived by a sister Marcia DeJulio of Pittsburgh, PA and four grandchildren, Craig and Conner Meints, and Tatum and Tessa Gilbert.
Donna was a graduate (cum laude) of Muskingum College in 1955 and worked for three years as a missionary in Porto Alegre, Brazil teaching music and English to her Brazilian students. After returning to the U.S., Donna became an elementary music teacher in Philadelphia, PA and received her Masters Degree in 1962 from Drew Theological School. She continued teaching music all of her life, was a well-known Suzuki teacher, and also played with the Brevard Symphony and Space Coast Orchestra while living in Melbourne.
The family will receive friends at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11213 Highway 49 North in Gulfport, on Saturday, June 13 from 7-9 PM and on Sunday, June 14 from 2-4 PM. A private funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15 followed by burial at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
