Donald Ray May, age 76, of Mobile, AL, passed away on April 14, 2020, in Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer I. and Evie C. May; his son, Donald Matthew May; his siblings, Elmer R. May, Betty Rose Davis, and Thomas May; and his second mother, Velma La Cuesta.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte A. May; his son, Tony May (Tessa); his daughter-in-law, Lisa May; his grandchildren, Emily June, Matthew, Charleigh, Macy, Colin, Landry, Sophie, and Evan.

Born and raised in Gulfport, Donald Ray May was the youngest of four children. He graduated with the class of 1962 from Gulfport High School and later moved to Mobile, AL. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air National Guard. He was employed as an inside machinist for 10 years at Ingalls Shipyard and then with L & N Railroad as a locomotive engineer for 30 years.

With his unwavering and faithful belief in Jesus Christ, Donald was also a Master Mason with Lodge #422.

On February 5, 1965, Donald married his beloved wife, Charlotte. He loved her and their two sons selflessly throughout their 55 years of marriage. Called “Papa” by many, DR was a devoted family man, admired by all that knew him. His love for his wife, children, and family was wholehearted and undeniable. He loved history, spending time with family, watching his favorite shows, and perfecting every detail of any project he was working on.

After a battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully; surrounded by the people he loved the most.
