Dominic D. Avery, age 55, of Long Beach, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Avery; his mother, Grazia Mininni Avery; and 3 brothers, Charles Avery, Roger Avery, and Anthony Avery.

He is survived by his brother, Paul (Sheila) Avery; a nephew, Ethan Avery; 2 nieces, Sarah Avery and Helen Avery; and numerous close friends, coworkers, and church family.

Dominic was a 1984 graduate of Long Beach High School and a 1988 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.  He was a computer analyst with the Naval Oceanographic Office under the Department of Defense at Stennis Space Center.  At NOAA, Dominic received numerous awards and commendations for his extensive work on ocean floor mapping.

He was a faithful and devout member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and served on the Core Team for the Life Teen Youth Ministry.  He was also a 4th Degree member of the St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus Council #4898.  His faith was evident in the way he lived his life – quiet and humble with an infectious smile.  Dominic enjoyed fitness, especially cycling and running, and he loved to read and travel.  Dominic was very proud of his Italian Heritage, and he traveled to Italy often to visit with his maternal family.

The family would like to thank St. Thomas parish and its members who were like family to Dominic.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to the Life Teen Ministry c/o St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 9:30 – 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd, Long Beach, MS 39560.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 in the church.  Interment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
