Dolores Faye Lorio Chauffe, born June 13, 1938, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Pass Christian, MS, after living 75 years in her beloved hometown of Hahnville, Louisiana.
After graduating from Nichols State University, Dolores served as a Hahnville school librarian for her 25-year career (1972-1998) with the St. Charles Parish School System. She believed that education extends beyond the classroom through the books found in the libraries, which strengthens a community.
Dolores was a founding member and President Emeritus of the Friends of the Saint Charles Parish Library and served as president of the organization for several terms, including two terms on the Saint Charles Parish Library control board. Dolores always had a book in her hand and an author to share with you. She believed in the power of the written word, whether in the Bible, a book from the library, or from a friend. Dolores was passionate about reading and enjoyed her monthly book club gatherings. She loved music, with Pavarotti and Willie Nelson being her favorites. She always enjoyed lunch, movies, theatre, and art museum events with friends and family. Connections to family, friends, and God were of utmost importance to her throughout her life. She was deeply religious and found great joy in serving the Lord through her church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Paul Chauffe; her parents, Joseph F. and Marcelle Ricard Lorio; and brother, Gerald B. Lorio.
Dolores is survived by her children, Jeanne Louise Chauffe (husband, Tim Gratton), Michael Chauffe, and Patricia Scarborough (husband, Bryant); her beloved grandchildren, Jullian Morton (husband, Clint), Alec; Michael Winston, Hayden, Olivia, and Natalie and their mother, Amy Chauffe; her great-grandchildren, Palmer Rose and Georgia Kate (arriving soon). Dolores is also lovingly survived by her dear siblings, Marilyn Lorio Racca (husband, Ronald), Joseph F. Lorio (wife, Mary Jo); and sister-in-law, Nelwyn Lorio.
