Lucien Francis Moragas, Jr. was a deacon of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, LA, the Diocese of Biloxi, MS, and the Archdiocese of the Military. He died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home. He was 78 years old.
Deacon Moragas was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Kiln, Mississippi since 1994. He was the son of the late Lucien Francis Moragas, Sr. and the late Irma Julia Melancon Moragas. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Batt Moragas; loving father of his five children: Tracy J. Moragas (Lisa), Shannon D. Moragas (Charlotte), Corey P. Moragas, Erin M. Abney (Greg) and Sheila Moragas (Jason Grazulis); as well as his nine grandchildren: Joshua Moragas (Jackie), Jason Moragas, Ryan Moragas, David Moragas, Taylor Moragas, Bailey Moragas, Christopher Abney (Stephanie), Nicholas Abney (Megan) and Elise Grazulis; and his two great-grandchildren: Madison Abney and Caleb Moragas. He is also survived by his brother Douglass Moragas (Chere) and his sister, Danelda Schouest (Adam); as well as his brother-in-law, Merlin Batt (Carole) and sister-in-law, Bonnie Anton (Duke) and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of De La Salle High School, Delgado Junior College, and attended Tulane University in New Orleans. He was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and served at Resurrection Catholic Church. After moving to Kiln, MS, he served at St. Williams, St. Ann and St. Stephens, as well as Most Holy Trinity, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of the Rosary at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS, and at the time of his death, he was a parishioner and deacon at Annunciation Catholic Church, Kiln, MS. He served on the Diocese of Biloxi Tribunal and also as Chaplain at Port Bienville, Pearlington, MS.
Deacon Moragas was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the Marine Club of New Orleans, the Louisiana Shipyard Building and Repair Association (Chairman for 12 years), the Mark Twain Club, a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #11995, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4547, and the American Legion Post 139. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Relatives and friends of the family, parishioners of Annunciation, employees of Saucer Marine Services, Halter Marine, Boland Marine, Algiers Iron Works, Gulf Coast Fabrication, Trinity Marine and Halter Marine Group are invited to attend the visitation at Annunciation Catholic Church, 5370 Kiln-Delisle Rd., Kiln, MS, on Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 22 in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Annunciation Church, Kiln, MS building fund.
