David Max Waaga, 70, of Long Beach, Mississippi, joined the Lord on March 9, 2026.

David "Root" was born on February 14 in Gulfport, Mississippi, to Robert Waaga and Marian (Netto) Waaga. He grew up in Long Beach alongside his brothers and sisters.

He welcomed two sons, David Max Waaga Thorton, and Tyler Max Waaga. "Root" worked as a carpenter for more than 40 years and was known for diligence and dedication to his community.

David is survived by two children David and Tyler, his brothers Bobby M. Waaga, Charles E. Waaga, Richard J. Waaga, and Dennis A. Waaga, and his sisters Mary A. (Waaga) Hayward, Barbara L (Waaga) Cox, Amy L. (Waaga) Davis, and Laurie A. (Waaga) D'Andrea along with a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. 

"Root" was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Robert and Marian Waaga.

A private viewing will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home on March 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in Gulfport, Mississippi.

The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses of Driftwood Memorial Nursing Home for their care and support as well as the hospice staff who took care of him in his last moments.
