David Lester Smith

David L. Smith, a devoted husband and father defined by curiosity, courage, and generosity, passed away on December 11, 2025 at the age of 72. Born on November 21, 1953, David lived a life rich in purpose, laughter, and deep love for both the natural world and the people who shared his journey.

A lifelong learner, David's passion for wildlife and the outdoors led him to earn a Master's Degree in Biology and Wildlife Sciences. He found peace and joy under open skies-whether hunting at dawn, fishing quiet waters, or simply being immersed in the rhythms of nature. The outdoors was not just a pastime; it was where David felt most at home, and where many of his best stories were born.

David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. A Vietnam veteran, he never spoke of his service but his strength, discipline, and sense of duty it instilled shaped the rest of his life. Those who knew him best recognized these qualities in his integrity, loyalty, and steady presence.

While we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived-one defined by service, passion, adventure, and love. David L. Smith will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

David was preceded in death by his father, Lester Smith; his mother, Wilma Edwards; his sister, Leslie Noren; and his brother, Mark Smith

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carolyn Dianne Smith; his children, Weatherly Baum, Jimmy Baum, Colbert Smith, Tina Smith, Tammy Cuevas, and Nestor Rodriguez; his siblings, Scott Smith and Erin Hayes; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Payton, Joslynn, James, Dalton, and Annalise; and great-grandchild Liam.

Though our hearts are heavy, we remain grateful for every memory-every hug, every kiss, every conversation, every lesson, and every shared moment. Love does not end; it changes shape. The love remains - woven into memories, objects, places and habits that carry meaning to each of us. David's influence continues in our lives, and in that truth, we carry him with us-today, tomorrow, and always.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home. All who loved them are welcome to gather, remember, and hold one another close.
