Obituary

David Frederick LaRochelle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Diamondhead, Mississippi, surrounded by his family. Born on August 17, 1938, in Winchendon, Massachusetts David’s, remarkable journey through life touched countless hearts and left a legacy defined by service, love, and unwavering integrity.

After his early years in Massachusetts, David later moved to the Washington, D.C., area for work, forging new paths and building a life filled with purpose. In the 1970s, he relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast following a career transfer that would ultimately root his family in the community he cherished. Throughout his life, David exemplified dedication both at home and in his professional endeavors.

David served with distinction as Comptroller for the Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis, a role in which he was respected for his professionalism and commitment to excellence. His career stood as a testament to his strong work ethic and devotion to public service.

Outside of his professional life, David’s passions reflected his vibrant spirit. He enjoyed the serenity of golf, found joy working in his yard, and relished the adventures of traveling. His enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures was infectious, and he took great pride in sharing these moments with family and friends.

A man guided by deep faith, David was very active at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach and later became an integral part of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He generously gave of himself through volunteer work with St. Vincent DePaul and participated in Homebound Ministries, embodying the values he held dear. His contributions to his church communities were among his proudest accomplishments, defined by genuine compassion and a profound desire to serve others.

David’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, JoAnn LaRochelle, whose steadfast partnership was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his loving children: sons Michael LaRochelle (and fiancé Susan Annase Vernon), and John LaRochelle (Angela), and daughter Susan Pearce (Jeff). Cherished memories live on through his sister, Sandra Myrick; his grandchildren Phillip Pearce, Arnold Pearce, Jade Pearce, Mia Pearce, Luke LaRochelle, Jacob LaRochelle, Alexandra LaRochelle Nicholas LaRochelle, and Tiffany Richerson; and his great-grandchildren Devyn, Alyssa; and his great great grandchildren, Liam, Alaia, and Estella. His circle of family and friends was broad, and his enduring love and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 9062 Kiln Delisle Rd, Pass Christian, MS 39571, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

David Frederick LaRochelle’s extraordinary life spanned nearly nine decades, marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering faith. As his loved ones gather to honor and remember him, they do so with profound gratitude for his wisdom, kindness, and the indelible mark he leaves on their hearts and the community he so faithfully served.
