David Murray Bourgeois, 61, passed away on October 14th, 2024, in New Orleans, LA.
He was born March 21, 1963 in Montgomery, AL. Son of Gerald and Carole Bourgeois, David grew up in a military family where he traveled for years around the world. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1981 and attended Louisiana State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Zoology. He completed his formal education after receiving his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston, but his love for research and all things eyes continued on throughout his life. He spent the last 28 years of his career with the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Biloxi, MS.
Growing up, David loved to travel. He spent his summers “visiting his parents” in Europe while in school. He met Elise, his wife of 33 years, before settling down in Ocean Springs, MS. He was a fun-loving guy who valued time with his family. He loved the outdoors, riding his bike, being on the water, and exploring national parks. He enjoyed a clean car, anything sweet, grilled fish, an afternoon nap, and a good day off. David was a selfless man, who would do anything for anyone. He was a devout Catholic who continually developed his faith.
He is survived by his wife, Elise (Allen) Bourgeois; their children: Collin Bourgeois, Gavin Bourgeois, Marie Bourgeois; grandchild, Matthieu Bourgeois; sisters: Yvette (Mario) DeSanctis, Suzanne (Edward) Milam; brother, Gerald ‘Jay’ (Renae) Bourgeois as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. David joins in eternal rest with his loving parents, Gerald and Carole (Finnorn) Bourgeois, along with his grandparents, Camille and Hilda Bourgeois, William Joseph and Anna (Hebert) Finnorn, who have preceded him in death.
