Darrell E. Merkle, age 74, of Biloxi, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 in Biloxi.
Mr. Merkle had 20+ years active duty service with the U. S. Army, honorably discharged as a SFC, E7. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, 6 Good Conduct Medals, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He then worked for 20+ years in Civil Service, split between the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Merkle was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He would raise, train, show, breed and care for horses. He was a collector of unique currency and he was an Ohio State fan.
He was preceded in death by his sibling, Dwight Merkle, father, Stanley Merkle and mother, Laura Merkle. Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Merkle and wife April; siblings, Lois Moore and husband Jack, Harley Merkle, Lavern Merkle & Judy Merkle and Delores Secist; and two grandchildren, Elisha Merkle and Leighton Merkle.
Darrell was a hardworking and loyal Christian family man who gave all and asked for little. You will be truly missed but never forgotten.

Private burial services were held at Biloxi National Cemetery.
