Darlene Thurman returned to her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 14th 2012.
She is survived by her daughter Kellie Thompson, sister Dixie Peterson-Huch, brother-in-law Craig Huch, granddaughter Samantha Thompson, grandson Michael Thompson and her new great-granddaughter Phoebe Harmon. Survivors also include her nieces and nephews: Regina Peterson, Heather and Cory Blenden, Hope Warden, Jason and Jill Peterson, Jessie and Jessica Warden, BJ Warden, Chad and Paula Hefley, Shane Warden and Mitch and Mary Helen Tinsley. She will be missed by her long time friend Sterling ""Moose"" Amos.
She was a life-long resident of Gulfport, a nurse, a wonderful caregiver and compassionate friend. She was a faithful friend, Nana and second mom to her great niece Avary Peterson and great nephew Tyler Odem and her many other nephews and nieces. She was a faithful member of the Broadmoor Baptist Church of Gulfport and a friend to all the members and especially Pastor Billy Simmons. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and trees. She loved animals and will be missed by her 2 cats, ""Minnie Puss"" and ""Cookie Face."" She was a strong woman and lived life to the fullest. She was a member of the Krewe of Venus, a member of the court in 2009 and Mardi Gras was always a wonderful time of the year for her.
She will be viewed in her favorite Ball Gown from 4:00 to 5:00 PM on Monday, December 17th 2012 with service at 5:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME on Three Rivers Road and Dedeaux Road in Gulfport.
She had great faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family and will be missed by all that knew a very special person. The world is a lesser place at her passing but with the joyful hope of the future reunion for eternity in Heaven. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America at lupus.org and P.O. Box 418629, Boston, MA 02241. The family wishes to especially thank the ICU staff of the Memorial Hospital in Gulfport for their professionalism and dedicated care of Darlene in her final hours.
