Darlene L. (Rick) Hyatt of Gulfport, MS, passed away at age 83, on Sunday, May 6, 2018 after a brief illness at Garden Park Medical Center, Gulfport.
She was born in Lewellen, Nebraska to her loving parents, Eugene S. Rick and Orpha (Nash) Rick. She was married to Reverend James L. Hyatt in Powel, WY, for 59 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her step-father, Carl Rick; and a brother, Eugene "Bud" Rick.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sheila (Ronald) Brown of Gulfport, Terri (Martin) Brewer of Gulfport, and Debra (Gary) Eakin of Reeds Springs, MO. She is also survived by two brothers, Larry (Sheryl) Rick of Idaho and Leonard (Revella) Rick of Wisconsin; two sisters, Frieda (David) Green of Idaho and Dixie (Bill) Van Horne of Idaho; seven grandchildren, Command First Sgt. James (Beth) Jacobs of Ohio, Sarah (Michael) Crebassa of Gulfport, Benita Christie of Gulfport, Shannon (Jerry) Stewart of Missouri, Meghan (Lloyd) Dikes of St. Martin, Joshua Hagler (Julia Gill) of Missouri, and Laura Goepel of Gulfport; eleven great-grandchildren; three nieces in Idaho, one in Colorado, and two in Wisconsin, one in NY/FL , one in California; three nephews in Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews in various counties in Mississippi.
She was a member of The Gulfport Church of God of Prophecy all her life and a pastor's wife for 40 years. She served as the Church Clerk, Secretary and Treasurer, Youth and Missions directors, and Choir and Music Director at numerous churches in numerous states including Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Missouri and Mississippi. She played piano in the church from the age of 12 until three weeks prior to her death. "I was glad when they said, let us go into the House of the Lord" Psalms 122:1.
She was employed here on the coast at Kessler Air Force Base BX Drycleaners Shop as a Seamstress for 16 years prior to Hurricane Katrina and then worked at Handsboro Dry Cleaners until her retirement at age 78. She was a loving wife, mother, maw maw, and memaw. She will be greatly missed not only by her own family and friends, but also by her Gulfport church family and loving church families across the country. She was a good and faithful servant of God.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
