DANIEL WOODROW WILSON
November 21, 1933 — May 1, 2026
Daniel Woodrow Wilson, a man of profound courage, quiet strength, and an unwavering heart, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, in Gulfport, MS. He was 92 years old. Born in Red Star and raised in Minden, WV, Daniel was the true embodiment of a life well-lived—a man who dedicated himself to his country, his work, and, above all, the family he cherished.
Daniel, a retired Sergeant First Class in the US Army, is defined by his extraordinary service. A decorated veteran, he answered the call of duty for three harrowing tours in the Vietnam War and the Korean war. Serving as both a Medical Specialist and Construction Foreman, he was a protector in every sense—capable of building structures to last a lifetime and tending to the wounds of his fellow soldiers with steady, compassionate hands. His bravery under fire and commitment to his brothers-in-arms earned him the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Combat Medical Badge. He was also honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.
Following his military retirement, Daniel brought his discipline and brilliance to Seattle, Washington, where he enjoyed a second distinguished career as a Logistics Specialist for Boeing. Even in retirement, his spirit remained restless and creative; he found joy in flipping real estate, traveling across the vast beauty of the United States, and cheering on women’s basketball. Yet his favorite place was always at the center of his family’s love, often found working around his home or simply sharing stories with those he held dear.
Daniel’s heart was his greatest gift. He was a kind-hearted man, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who led with patience and grace. His presence was a lighthouse for his family, offering a steady hand and a warm smile through every season of life.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Woodrow and Valara Wilson, and his siblings: Louise Blanks, JoAnn Wilson, Raymond Wilson, and George Wilson. He is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his wife, Geraldine Guyton; his stepchildren, Kenneth Guyton and Earl Guyton; and his cherished grandchildren, Darius Guyton, LaVonne Proctor, and Quincy Proctor, who were the pride and joy of his later years. Daniel held a unique and powerful bond with Darius, his only grandson, whom he loved and thought of as his very own son. He is also survived by his devoted nephews, Fredrick Johnson Sr., Fredrick Johnson Jr., Timothy Jones, Alex Jones, and Victor Lacy; and his first cousins, Caria Jones and Rocio; and a dedicated friend, Gloria Washington. Daniel will be missed beyond measure by his many friends and family, but his spirit will live on in every act of kindness and every story shared in his honor.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with visitation beginning at 10:30 am. Graveside service with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
