Daniel "Danny" Ezra Dunlap

Daniel "Danny" Ezra Dunlap, age 67, of Brooklyn, MS, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Biloxi.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra Bavard Dunlap and Eloise Bundy Dunlap Scroggins; sisters, Nancy Dunlap Isabell (Frank), Edith Dunlap Hopson (Joe); and his niece, Christina Marie Hopson.

Danny is survived by his former wife, Charla McGowan Dunlap; brothers, Theodore Edward "Buddy" Dunlap (Ruby), William Thomas "Bill" Dunlap (Brenda), and Kenneth Bavard "Kenny" Dunlap (Debi); sisters, Penny Dunlap Ladnier (Joe), and Della Dunlap Miller (David); and Kenny Hill, best friend and brother.

Standing 6’ 10” tall, Danny stood head and shoulders above the crowd. Known affectionately as “Big Dan” by his friends and associates. He lived a full life. In high school, he set records in basketball for the D’Iberville High Warriors and was a member of the track team. He was recruited to USM on a full basketball scholarship. His various endeavors saw him in the service of others as an Auxiliary Police Officer, EMT, and volunteer fire fighter in Hattiesburg and North Forest County Fire Service. He traveled the southeast for many years as a Safety Officer for Nordan Smith /Air Gas Company and, at one time worked as a limo driver enjoying meeting people. After his retirement, he returned to Forrest County and became a member of Forrest County Fire Service, Brooklyn Fire unit 18, with the call sign M-1. He worked alongside one of his best friends, Chip Brown.

Danny had a dry sense of humor. One of his fun activities was to reveal himself to the unsuspecting dressed as a larger-than-life Michael Myers. The reactions ranged from a shriek to a near arrest. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing drums, listening to music, and fishing. He was well loved by his seven siblings, Nancy, Buddy, Bill, Kenny, Penny, Edith, and Della (his long-time caregiver), his numerous nieces and nephews, his former wife Charla McGowan, his best friends, his fire squad and his many, many friends.

His family and friends may shed tears in a mixture of grief and relief. Grieving for the loved one that they can no longer relish, but relieved for the loved one released from the mortal coil that held his soul captive.
