Biloxi, Mississippi

Daniel Wayne Bertolasio, age 84, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, brother and sister-in-law. He was a man of great integrity and devotion — to his country, his family, and his friends.

Born on November 28, 1941, in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, Dan grew up with a deep sense of duty and love for his country. After graduating from Sharpsville High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18, earning an honorable discharge in 1964 after serving with pride as a United States Embassy Guard in Cambodia and Japan. Throughout his military service, he served with courage, leadership, and humility, earning the respect of all who had the honor to serve beside him.

His military decorations include two Good Conduct Medals and a Letter of Meritorious Mast.

After departing from the Marines, Dan continued a life of service and learning. He worked at multiple steel container corporations: US Steel, Van Leer, Greif Brothers and also worked as a consultant for Mobile Oil in Columbia, South America. Dan was a brilliant mechanical engineer by trade and was a United States patent holder for his designs that improved the industry, reflecting his deep belief in the power of knowledge and self-improvement. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Beyond his career accomplishments, Dan found his greatest happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, hunting, his dogs, woodworking and had a natural talent for fixing any machine or object presented to him. His laughter and stories filled every family gathering.

Those who knew Dan will remember his wisdom, strength, and unwavering loyalty. He lived his life by the values of honor, respect, and compassion.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Betty Joyce (Thompson) Bertolasio, and his children, Daniel Wayne Bertolasio II and Brian David Burbach. His siblings: William Bertolasio and Marnie (Miller) Bertolasio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Bertolasio and Julia Rose (Bornes) Bertolasio; and his sisters Barbara Ann (Bertolasio) Bisconti and Julia (Bertolasio) Wright.
