Dahlia Viana Cangelosi passed away peacefully at her home in Diamondhead, MS, on May 10, 2013. Dahlia was 75 years old. A native of Puerto Cortez, Honduras, Dahlia spent her adult life as a resident of Metairie, LA, and Diamondhead.
Beloved wife of 53 years of Charles Cangelosi; adored and loving mother of Catherine Neupert (Jeff), Michael Cangelosi and Daniel Cangelosi; cherished and loving grandmother of Derek Neupert (Holly) and Andrew Neupert. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max Viana and Catalina Castillo Viana. She is survived by her sister, Rose Viana, of Miami, FL.
Dahlia devoted many years of her life to and was most passionate about serving our Lord by serving others. While a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Metairie, she was a member of the St. Jude Society. She also conducted advocacy on behalf of patients at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Metairie. After her retirement, she became very active in volunteer work in her community. In addition to serving on the board of the Hancock County Food Pantry, she also acted as volunteer coordinator for that organization. Dahlia was a Eucharistic minister and taught CCD classes for children of the congregations of St. Stephen's, St. William's and St. Ann's churches in Hancock County. She derived immense spiritual satisfaction as a mentor to students at Delisle Elementary School. Dahlia organized several couples' retreats to Saint Joseph Abbey in St. Benedict, LA. She was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post 2880. She was also a volunteer instructor of Spanish as part of the Diamondhead Continuing Education Program.
Dahlia was an avid tennis player and golfer and more recently enjoyed games of Bridge with friends.
Her family wishes to express its sincere thanks to Notre Dame Hospice of the Archdiocese of New Orleans for their spiritual and compassionate care. We would like to offer special thanks to Craig Pierce, Jennifer Whitney and the deacons and sitters of the Hospice for their care and guidance to Dahlia and her family. In addition, the family expresses its deep appreciation to Mary Beth Baker for her support and loving assistance. Thanks are also offered for the prayers, masses and support provided by numerous friends of the family.
The family requests donations in Dahlia's name be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pass Christian, MS, 9062 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian, MS 39571 or Notre Dame Hospice of New Orleans,
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, May 14th at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 12:30pm, with visitation beginning at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
