Mr. Curtis M. Compton, Sr., passed away July 15, 2013 in Gulfport at the age of 81.
He was born to the late William Leon and Bessie Moore Compton in Meridian, MS on August 17, 1931. He was raised in Enterprise, MS and was a graduate of Clarkdale High School. After high school he entered the United States Air Force, and served his country for two years.
Mr. Compton worked for Alpine Chemical, a division of Masonite, for 13 years. After leaving Alpine Chemical, he founded Compton Appliance Repair in 1964 working in the business until he passed away.
He was member of Burton Memorial United Methodist Church in Gulfport. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies; and a charter member of the Coast Nobles Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, William B. Compton, Norma Clara Robertson, Omar Ray Compton, and Annie Grace Gainer.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Pollock Compton of Gulfport; children, Michael C. Compton (Gina) of Gulfport, Curtis M. Compton, Jr. (Deborah) of Gulfport, Raymond C. Compton of Gulfport, and Karen D. Dennis of St. Amant, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, Kari Bond, Lynsi Searcy, Curtis M. Compton, III, Lea D. Compton, Matthew Compton, Christina Preston, Brandon M. Dennis, and Gabriel M. Dennis; four great grandchildren, Asher and Ryder Bond, Rachel Switzer, and Blakeleigh Compton.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church, on Pass Road in Gulfport. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary immediately following the visitation.
Interment will follow services at the church at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
