Obituary

Crispin Jeffry "Butch" Horning, of Gulfport, MS, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Butch was born to Kenneth and Mary Horning in Reading, PA on May 25, 1941. He spent his childhood on a dairy farm in Bowmansville, PA and graduated high school, where he played the French horn in the school band.

Aspiring to become a pilot, he joined the US Air Force shortly after graduation but the Air Force had other plans, assigning him to Heavy Ground Radar Maintenance. He was deployed only three times and spent the remaining 17 years of his career at Keesler Air Force Base until his retirement. During that time, he held a second job at a printing company where he met the love of his life, Gail.

Together they were an avid race car couple and enjoyed a life of autocrossing, traveling to watch races, working at various race tracks around the country and volunteering for many years at Cruisin' the Coast as well as belonging to many local car clubs.

Butch had become an ordained Deacon at Handsboro Baptist Church as well as a sound technician for various local churches, including Grace Memorial Baptist Church to which he last belonged. He was an amateur radio operator who assisted in emergency operations after hurricanes and other emergency situations, his way of giving back to his community.

The Lord called Butch home on a beautiful Sunday morning. He waved goodbye and peacefully complied.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail Agregaard Horning, a sister-in-love, Ginny (Wayne) Sholar and two precious furbabies, Bella and Lexi.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 23rd Ave., Gulfport, MS. at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
