Cordell Anderson

Cordell Anderson, age 85, resident of Saucier passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in Gulfport.
He was born in Magee, MS on February 3, 1927 to the late Chester and Maggie Anderson. Cordell moved to Harrison County in 1945, and then he went on to serve in the Unites States Army during World War II. He married Grace Lee Dobson in 1948 and they were married for 46 years until she passed away in 1994.
He earned his GED. He also earned a technical degree in Mechanics from MGCCC-Perkinston Campus and a technical degree in Welding from MGCCC-Jeff Davis Campus.
Mr. Anderson worked for 35 years as a Nursing Assistant at the VA Hospital in Gulfport. After he retired, he was involved in various businesses including working as Ranch Foreman for his best friend of 62 years Billy George Hickman. He enjoyed farming, his horses, raising oxen, hunting, and raising his eight children.
Mr. Anderson was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Shriners, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite, and was an active member of the Blue Lodge in Gulfport. He was former president of the Woodman of the World Lodge 1442 in Gulfport. He was a member of Cedardale Missionary Baptist Church for twenty years, serving as treasurer and several other officer positions, and he was a member First Baptist Church of Saucier. At the time of his death, he attended Saucier Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Grace Lee Dobson Anderson; and siblings, Vernell Anderson, Earl Anderson, Myrtis Stone, and Normarie Holliman.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Lenora Jean Anderson of Saucier; his children, Mickey (Debbie) Anderson of Gulfport, Kirby (Anita) Anderson of McHenry, Brenda (Kerry) Keller of Union, MS, Joan (Mike) Riddle of McHenry, Larry Anderson of Saucier, Bruce (Janie) Anderson of Saucier, Cathy (Jeff) Woods of Gulfport, and Janet (Bobby) Johnson of Gulfport; his step children, Susanne Bayes of Lizana and Jack (Lacie) Bayes, Jr. of Bloomingdale, GA; his brothers, Edward Anderson of Perkinston and Joe Anderson of DeQuincy, LA; 24 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 10:00 am, with a visitation one hour prior, at Saucier Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Saucier. Burial will follow services at Anderson Cemetery on Diamond Road, Saucier.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Anderson, Jr., Kerry Keller, Michael Riddle, Chester Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Chad Anderson, Eric Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Justin Anderson, and Thomas Woods.
