~~Colonel Elvin Orville Wyatt, born November 11, 1925, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, December 6, 2017 peacefully at his home in Saucier, MS.
During his 92 years of life, he traveled to over 80 different countries as part of his service in the United States Air Force and the US Army Air Corps. He first served in World War II with the Air Corps after enlisting as a teenager. After World War II, he studied English at Louisiana State University, during which time he played on the football team and was a part of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Colonel Wyatt served in the United States Air Force after graduation, deploying during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his military career, he was awarded a Silver Star for surviving over 100 missions overseas, served with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, and earned a spot in the Mach Busters club, a group formed of pilots who exceeded the speed of sound in an airplane. Colonel Wyatt retired as Inspector General at Keesler Air Force Base after 34 years of honorable service to his country.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Welch Wyatt of Saucier; son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Valarie Wyatt of New Braunfels, TX; son, George R. Wyatt of Texas; daughter, Wendy Matusiczky of Baton Rouge, LA; stepson, Paul Burpo of Newtown Square, PA; stepdaughter Katherine Levy of Amarillo, TX; and stepdaughter and son-in-law Vicky and Nelson Carr of Gulfport, MS; 16 grandchildren, Adam Wyatt, Jason Wyatt, Lisa Ducote, Amy Rosenblum, James Wyatt, Joshua Wyatt, David Carr, Katherine Carr, Jean-Luc Matusiczky, Nicholas Levy, Ashley Levy, Skyler Matusiczky, Rebecca Carr, Csanyi Matusiczky, Wyatt Matusiczky, and Norah Burpo; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Roper Wyatt; his father, Elvin John Wyatt; and two brothers, Claude Layne Wyatt and Willie Lee Wyatt. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 11th, 2017 from 11:30am-12:30pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, followed by a service at 12:30pm. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the National Cemetery in Biloxi at 2:30pm.  Memories may be shared at www.riemannfamily.com
