Lt Col Robert G. ""Bob"" Nelson, USAF Ret, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2014.
In 1964, Bob entered the Air Force and attended, 61-09, Student Officer's School in Harlingen, TX, where he received his commission and wings. He attended NAV School and became a navigator. After his many assignments throughout his career, and having served in Vietnam, his last assignment was 7AACS, KAFB, Biloxi, MS, and retired after 29 years of military service. In civilian life he managed a courier service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Mary Olive Nelson, wife, Rose Nelson, and infant daughter, Sandra Nelson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth R. Nelson of Ocean Springs; daughters, Patricia (Jay) Foil, Joanna (Harding) Schofield, Jennifer(Earl) Sears; step-daughters, Christine Chandler, Mary Beth Vickers; step-son, Timothy (Carla) Chandler; grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Jordan, Justice, Ovid, Raymond, Evan, Catherine; brothers, Gary Nelson and Kip Nelson; sister, Judy Foote; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Ocean Springs Hospital, especially the nurses in SICU, for their constant and loving care.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd, Biloxi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Biloxi with a visitation for family and friends from 11:30 AM until the Mass. Burial with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
