Leaving a legacy of national service and education, Edward M. Brennan of Saucier, MS, passed away March 16, 2016 at the age of 86. Col. Brennan was born December 11, 1929 in Sayre, PA to Martin P. and Mary A. (Urianak) Brennan. He is preceded in death by both parents and a son, Mark E. Brennan. He is also preceded by three brothers, Donald, Marty, and John Brennan, all of upstate New York.
Edward is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Scott Brennan, and four children: E. Scott (Saadiah) Brennan; Mary B. Waltman; Hugh E. Brennan, all of Saucier, MS, and Beth B. (Phillip) Haskins of Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Mary Amanda Haskins, Oxford, MS; Josh Haskins, Waco, TX; Tessa Brennan, Dallas, TX; Meranda Brennan, Saucier MS; and Bailey Waltman, Saucier, MS. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Theresa (Dick) Hill, Sherburne, NY, and sister-in-law Beatrice S. (Bion) Estabrook, Derry, NH.
Col. Brennan enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1947, which later became the US Air Force. He proudly served his country for 26 years as a Master Navigator, Typhoon Goon, and Hurricane Hunter. He retired in Gulfport as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973. He then earned his doctorate in adult education from USM in 1977, a firm believer in lifelong learning. Dr. Brennan then served as the Center Director of Gulfport Job Corps Center for ten years, retiring in 1989. He later spent his free time cross-country traveling with his wife, fishing, and enjoying activities with his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 19th, where Col. Brennan was a parishioner for over 50 years. Immediately following, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in remembrance of Col. Brennan to Boys Town (http://www.boystown.org/), St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/), or your favorite charity.
