Claude Capers

July 2, 1915 — March 20, 2013

Claude C. Capers, born July 2, 1915, completed his tour of duty on earth after passing onward on March 20, 2013 at the Armed Forces Retirement Home after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. He was honorably discharged from this physical life into his eternal spiritual life.
He was a beloved husband to his wife and our mother, Lois, whom earlier passed away onward to her spiritual journey as a victim of the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. He was a wonderful father and provider to his daughter Sandra Capers and son Roddy Capers. He was a devoted and beloved elder of the Church of Christ. He did what he loved best by helping people and let's not leave out he was a great fisherman who took his family on many outings catching many, many fish.
He served in the Mississippi National Guard 155th Infantry from 1934 to 1937, and then later enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October 1941. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, fighting in the India / Burma Campaign as a master sergeant, being honorably discharged in December 1945.
He got a job at Swift & Company which would become his career, rising to office manager. He served as an elder with the Skyway Hills Church of Christ and the Church of Christ in Gulfport. He inherited his brother's house which he grew up in and moved back to Gulfport in the early 1980's. He continued doing taxes to keep him busy.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Church of Christ, 2900 22nd Ave. in Gulfport.
The graveside service will take place on Wednesday, March 27 at 12 Noon at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Old soldiers never die ... they just fade away.
