Clara Harrington Dobbyn, 73, of Gulfport, MS went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in peace at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Bernice B. Harrington; and her brother, James Harrington. She is survived by her children, William ""Bill"" Dobbyn of Gulfport, Russell Dobbyn of Gulfport (Flor Reyes Dobbyn of Iloilo, Philippines), Kenneth Dobbyn of Corning, AR, and Dorothy Lahovitch of D'Iberville; her sister, Lucy Welch of Lafayette, LA; her brothers, Cleve Harrington (Sibyl) of Mobile, AL, and David Harrington (Marty) of Jackson, MS; her granddaughters, Sharon and Megan Lahovitch and Mallory Young; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was born in Laurel, MS, but lived most of her life on the MS Gulf Coast. After graduating from St. John High School in 1957, she went on to live a life dedicated to her family, friends, church and community. For over 20 years she was the dedicated secretary serving the doctors, staff and patients at Gulfport OB-GYN. As a faithful servant of God, she worshipped for over 40 years at Pass Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and watched over the children in the nursery, touching countless lives. As a mom she invested much of her time volunteering with the Boy Scouts with her sons and the Girl Scouts with her daughter.
A remembrance and celebration time will be held on Saturday April 6, 2013, with a visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and a service from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Pass Road Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS.
Instead of flowers, it is the family's sincerest wishes that donations go to the American Cancer Society.
