Clara Irene Cupp of Long Beach passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, in Gulfport, MS, at the tender age of 96.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her only grandchild.
Her survivors include her daughter, Marie Fry (Robert) of Pass Christian, her son, Michael Morgan (Helen) of San Diego, CA, and her daughter, Mary Westmoreland (Jim) of Long Beach.
Clara was born in Lawrence, Kansas, to Lucille M. Harbour Dailey and Jasper A. Dailey. Before finishing college, she moved to California with her mother and although she had several unsuccessful attempts at love and marriage, Clara was blessed with three children. She later fell in love and married B.J. Cupp in 1965. The family moved to Long Beach and Clara became actively involved in her community. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and served as Neighborhood Chairman and Cookie Chairman for the Long Beach Girl Scouts for many years. While Neighborhood Chairman, Clara was instrumental in working with the Seabees to build the first Girl Scout hut in Long Beach.
She was also a dependable, long-standing poll worker and poll manager for Harrison County and the city of Long Beach for over 35 years.
Clara was an avid bowler and served as a league secretary until she she broke her hip and had to give up the sport in 2010 at the age of 89. She served on the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Women's Bowling Association for 20 years (1984-2004), received the Secretary of the Year award for 1986-1987, and was inducted into the association's Hall of Fame in 1998-1999. Breaking her hip didn't slow Clara down though. She began going to the Senior Citizens Activity Center in Long Beach and took up her previous love of ceramics. She also played in a monthly Bunco group and enjoyed spending time at the casino whenever possible. Clara's greatest enjoyment came from being with family and friends and she left a legacy of love and grace that all who knew her will carry in their hearts and memories forever.
