Chief Master Sergeant Richard Sidney Johnston, III, USAF Ret.

Chief Master Sergeant Richard Sidney Johnston III, USAF Ret., age 72 of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Richard was born on May 19, 1953, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Richard was a highly prestigious member in the United States Air Force retiring after 30 years of active duty. The majority of his assignments included 20 years of foreign service. He was awarded several medals and awards such as, Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Air & Space Campaign Medal, and Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. His dedicated service, hard work, and continued studies of our country earned him the title of Chief Master Sergeant.

After retiring, he worked in disaster response and recovery with both The State of Mississippi and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

He is survived by his sister, Linda Bailey and nephew, Greg Strader both of Advance, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard S. Johnston Jr. and his mother, Sarah Desern Johnston both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Richard was loved by many of his closest friends, and he will be greatly missed.

Richard will be laid to rest with full military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery on December 11, 2025, at 2:30 pm. Riemann Family Funeral Home, Biloxi, is honored to serve the family.
