Chief David Bass

Chief David Bass, age 64, of Long Beach, passed away on July 13, 2023, in New Orleans, LA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reginald Bass; his mother, Lottie Mae Burge Bass; and a nephew, Taylor Bass.

He is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Susan Danenhower Bass; a daughter, Lindsey Bourne; a brother, Gene (Lynda) Bass; 2 grandchildren, Lucy Bourne and Booker Nowlin; aunt, Betty Lee; nephew, Tyler (Summer) Bass; niece, Angela Bass; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, colleagues, and other relatives and friends.

David was a native and life long resident of Long Beach.  He was a graduate of the MS State Fire Academy, LSU Fire Academy, and Pearl River Community College, and retired as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Long Beach Fire Department.  David went back to school in his 50’s and graduated as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.  He enjoyed fishing and cooking, especially his unusual – but delicious -  food combinations and smoked meat.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Joshi, Dr. Bohorguez, Maria Murillo and the entire team of transplant doctors and nurses, Dr. Dalovisio and the entire team of oncology doctors and nurses, Dr. Brueder, Dr. Nguyen, nurses Rene, Mark, and Dane and the entire team of doctors and nurses who provided excellent and compassionate care to David in his last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be made to LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency), 68190 Hwy 190 Service Road, Covington, LA 70433, or the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, 300 N Cleveland Ave, Long Beach, MS 39560.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, 300 N Cleveland Ave, Long Beach.  The funeral service will be at 1 pm in the church.  Interment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
