Chester Lee Rice

Chester Lee Rice, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Biloxi VA Rehabilitation / Hospice Community Living Center. Born on April 21, 1935, in Alabama, Chester lived a remarkable life, spanning 90 and a half years, filled with accomplishments, love, and countless memories that will be cherished by those who knew him.

Chester's journey began with his heroic service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, where he served from 1952 to 1956. As an aircraft mechanic, navigator, and cargo loader and unloader, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his country, enlisting at just 17 years old with his parents' consent. After completing his military service, Chester embarked on a career in the oil industry, starting humbly as a floor sweeper for an oil company. His insatiable curiosity drove him to pursue further education, paving the way for a long and fulfilling career as an engineer. Chester traveled extensively around the world with CE Natco Oil Company and was instrumental in inventing several items that enhanced the oil business. Beyond his engineering achievements, he also took joy in sharing his knowledge with others as a professor.

Chester was not only known for his professional life; he was a man of deep faith and values. He was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and ensured that his family understood the importance of faith and God's love, and made sure his family went to church. His passionate belief in God, family, and country shaped him into a wonderful role model and leader within his family and community. Chester was generous, often using his resources to support charities and assist those in need.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Chester had a variety of interests that enriched his life. He was an avid reader, particularly drawn to biblical teachings about the end of times. Chester also enjoyed golfing, fishing, engaging with SYFY stories, and being a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Chester is survived by his loving children: Avis Breland (Gary), Rebecca Smith (Home), Annette Richardson (Patrick), and Rita Friar (Robert). He also leaves behind siblings Don Rice (Shirley), Glinda Pipkin (Roy), and Joyce Denke (Dewain), along with a legacy that includes grandchildren Jeremy Breland (Deirdre), Brandon Breland (Janna), Christyn Olaivar (Jason), Jamin Davidson, Aubrie Lane (Wesley), Christopher Richardson (Leah), Joshua Richardson (Rachel), Austin Richardson, Russel Smith (Jeanie), and Shellie Smith (Dalton). His extensive family circle continues with great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Hayden, Madelyn, Dean, Brynn, Branson, Bryson, Avery, Bubba, Emelee, Theo, Alyssa, Alexis, Owen, Blake, Ellie, Derrick, Kristian, Reece, Edwin, Johnny, Jessie, Journey, Lacey, Sierra, John Ross, Angel, Gypsie, Gracie, and Marina. He is also survived by great-great-grandchildren Ryker, Weylyn, Ganton, Elliot, and Harmony, as well as other loving family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Chester was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Elly; his father, Chester Rice; his mother, Maytle Rice; and his brother, Victor Rice. His absence will be felt deeply, yet the tremendous impact he had on his family and friends will resonate through their lives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Biloxi VA Rehabilitation / Hospice Community Living Center for the care provided during Chester's illness.
