Charlotte Smith

She was born in Galveston, Texas to Fred Maury Hasselmeier, Sr. and Mattie Josephine Gaschen the youngest of 6 children and only girl. She met and married the love of her life, Raymond Francis Smith, Jr. in 1940. Soon after their marriage, the young family moved to Gulfport, MS where Charlotte would live until her death.
Together, Charlotte and Raymond raised their children Mattie Jo Smith Byrd, Raymond F. Smith, III, and Patsy Smith DeVries. Charlotte was a strong, beautiful, doting mother and grandmother to her family. Always impeccably dressed, she enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with others, even in her last days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers, Fred, Jr., Louis George, Gaschen, Gale, and Lee; her daughter, Mattie Jo; and her sons-in-law, Verlon Byrd, Sr. and Frank DeVries.
She is survived by her son, Raymond F. Smith, III; her daughter, Patsy (Andy) DeVries; her grandchildren Tad and Tracy Byrd, Trent Smith, Lisa (Mark) Wilds, Michele (Todd) Stoner, Joey (Jennifer L.) DeVries, Richard (Jennifer A.) DeVries and Ashley (Dillon) Lacoste; she will be remembered fondly by her thirteen great-grandchildren, Kristyl, Christopher, Jessica, Kyle, Steven, Timothy, Alyssa, Brandon, Miriam, Carly, Richie, Brynn and Rylee; her six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She will always be remembered with love, for her laugh and kindness to all.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
