Charlotte Newman

Charlotte Harrison Newman, LCSW, passed away Thursday, May 10, in Gulfport, MS. She was born on March 10, 1966. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles T. Harrison. Sr., and is survived by her mother, Kathleen Broom Harrison, of D'Iberville, and one brother, Charles T. Harrison, Jr., of Biloxi.
Charlotte was a 1984 graduate of Biloxi High School and received bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. She earned a Master of Social Work degree at USM, where she was a member of Phi Alpha Honor Society, a GPA Merit Award winner, and Social Work Student of the Year in 2006. She was a licensed clinical social worker and was employed by Amedisys Home Health of Biloxi.
As a social worker and therapist, she worked for nearly thirty years helping others deal with family and community needs, through agencies including Gulf Coast Mental Health Center, YMCA of the USA, Gulf Coast Family Counseling Center, Harrison County Sheriff's Department, and Mississippi Department of Human Services.
She was a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, past board member of the local Mental Health Association, and past president of the Edgewater Rotary Club.  She was a member of The United Methodist Church.
Charlotte loved pets and enjoyed her cats very much.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the J. T. Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church, 1410 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, with visitation for family and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in the Biloxi City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Charlotte's memory to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
