Charlie Walters

Charlie Collins Walters, age 92, passed away on May 6, 2018, in Hattiesburg.
He was born in Sumrall, MS to the late Herrin and Rose Walters of Petal and had been a resident of Hattiesburg since 2010.  He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from MS Power after 42 years of service.  He enjoyed fishing, riding his tractor, gardening at his home in Perkinston, and most recently his love of chocolate frosties.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Laurie Walters; his daughter, Dianne Strahan; his brothers, Dewey, Forest, Woody, and Howard; his sisters, Pearl, Margaret, Dot, and Ethel Lois.
He is survived by his son, Ricky (Mary Ellen) Walters; a daughter, Joan (Sammy) Peterman; grandchildren, Sharon (Eric) Landrum, Jeff (Alisha) Strahan, Angie McMullin, Kris (Amy) Stewart and Matt (Kristin) Peterman; 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren that all knew him as "Poppy."  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 10 - 11 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport.  The funeral service will be at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.  Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
