Charles Howard "Charlie" Sharp, age 90, passed away peacefully from this life at his home in Saucier, MS on July 7, 2026. Charlie was born on December 26, 1935 in Picayune, MS to his parents, Mary Louise Seal Sharp and Howard Thomas Sharp. His family later moved to Metairie, LA where he spent his childhood and later graduated from Metairie High School. He married his first wife, JoAnn Hooper Sharp and together they had two children. JoAnn passed away suddenly when the children were in elementary school.
Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for South Central Bell (now AT&T) for more than 40 years, in Metairie and later in Gulfport where he met his second wife of 52 years, Gloria Marie Spence Sharp. He was a Southern Baptist and served as deacon and in numerous capacities at Metairie Baptist Church and several churches here in Harrison County.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise Seal Sharp and Howard Thomas Sharp; his first wife, JoAnn Hooper Sharp and their son, Charles Mark Sharp; his second wife, Gloria Marie Spence Sharp, who passed into eternity less than three months earlier in April; and sister, Hilda Sharp McCrary.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Darla Ann Sharp Fulton (Jim) of Gulfport; one granddaughter, Amanda "Mandy" Nicole Fulton of Bay St. Louis; and his brother, Thomas Allen Sharp of Mandeville, LA.
He was a dedicated family man who loved the Lord and committed his life to serving Him. Everyone who knew him can attest to his kind, genuine, and gentle demeanor that touched countless lives everywhere he went. He loved to fish, work in his garden and was an accomplished wood craftsman. Most of all, he loved playing his guitar and singing, especially gospel music. He was a member of numerous bands during his lifetime, making semi-regular appearances on New Orleans television stations. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Charlie's family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care for Charlie and especially to his caregiver, Carol Anderson, who was truly God-sent.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Graveside service to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, 34 Pine Grove Rd, Picayune, MS 39466.
