Charles Raymond Gallagher Jr. died peacefully on December 9, 2013 at his home in Lubbock Texas at the age of 93.
He was born to Charles Raymond and Marguerite Murphy Gallagher on June 2, 1920 in Graham Texas. He attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating in June 1941 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He enlisted in the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific Theatre. He married Mary Ellen Byrne of Phoenixville PA, on Sept. 2, 1944. After the war Ray was active as an independent oil and gas operator for over 50 years in Texas and Louisiana. Ray and Mary were residents of Pass Christian from 1983 until Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home. They were active community members of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sr. Eymard (Delphine) Gallagher RSHM.
Ray is survived by Mary Byrne Gallagher, his wife of 69 years; his children, Susan (Charles) Grey, Christine (Michael) Seger and Charles B. (Adrienne) Gallagher; his grandchildren, Charles (Emily) and Edward (Allison) Grey, Michael (Jennifer), Hilary Gravatt, and Andrew (Kelsey) Seger, Brian (Magdalen) Kate and John Gallagher; his 13 great-grandchildren, Meg, Sara and Chase Grey, Morgan and Patrick Grey, Max, Jack, Ben, Lily and Tate Seger, Journey and Connor Gravatt,and Evie Seger; and his siblings, Mary Herndon, Gregory Gallagher, Carol Pope and Charleen Knieriem.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Pass Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Family Parish Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
