Carrie Kirby Ely, a lifelong resident of Saucier, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the age of 62. She was surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
For over 25 years, Carrie was a cherished librarian within the Gulfport and Harrison County School Districts. To Carrie, a library was more than just books; it was a way to connect. She never missed an opportunity to ask what you were reading or to guide you toward a story that would change your world. Her passion for growth extended to her home, where she found peace in her garden and joy in her chickens.
Above all, Carrie was the heart of her family. While she wore many titles, her favorite was undoubtedly "Granny." Her greatest happiness was found in the laughter of her grandchildren and the simple moments spent together.
She was preceded in death by her father, Burton Kirby, and her brother, Charlie Kirby.
Her legacy of kindness continues through her devoted husband, William Ely; her mother, Sandra Kirby; and her daughters, Jaimie Assink (Seth) and Kirby Lara (Chris). She also leaves behind her stepsons, Michael Ely and Billy Ely; her five cherished grandchildren, Peyton, Abel, Josie, Lane, and Levi; and her siblings, Jennie Evans (Daniel), Pauline Geiselman (Jonathan), Crystal Skinner, and Scott Kirby, along with a large circle of extended family and dear friends.
While our world feels quieter without her, we find comfort in knowing that her love and legacy will live on in every garden that blooms and every story we share.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 10 - 11 am at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is honored to serve the family.
