Carol Ladner Garrett

Carol Ladner Garrett, age 89, of Long Beach, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025.

A native of Pass Christian and a longtime resident of Long Beach, Carol devoted her life to caring for others both personally and professionally. Carol graduated from Pass Christian High School in 1953. She began her career in nursing after earning her Registered Nursing degree from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans in 1956 and later continued her education with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her compassion and dedication to the well-being of others defined her 38-year career as a school nurse with the Harrison County School District, in addition to roles with the veteran’s healthcare system where she met her husband, Ronald, Garden Park Hospital and the Harrison County Health Department.

Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Ronald Steve Garrett; her parents, Leon and Euva Ladner; her grandparents; her brother, R.D. “Bobby” Ladner and sister-in-law, Irma Depreo Ladner; her sister, Linda “Gayle” Bentz; her in-laws, Eura Welch and Eslie Garrett; her nephew, Mikkel Newell; and numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lisa Garrett (Brent) Sanders of Pass Christian; her brother, Marlin (Rebecca) Ladner; her beloved aunt, Carolyn Ladner; her nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Bobby) Ariatti, Richard (Tricia) Bennett, Bradley Bennett, Don (Teresa) Ladner, Donna (Morris) Nix, Bridget (Russell) Weatherly, Leigh Ann Newell, Roger (Sharon) Ladner, Cindy Ladner Hathcock, Sharon Bentz (Ken) Mustered, and Leonard (Amber) Bentz; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom cherished her deeply.

Beyond her professional life, Carol found joy in gardening, volunteering with St. Vincent School children and Pineville School, and traveling with her family and beloved spouse. She was a woman of deep faith and a devoted member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she worshipped faithfully for many years.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Carol’s caregivers—Robin, Tammy, Morgan, April, Rhonda, Ginny, Judy, Sherrell, Rushelle, Gail, Myra, Southern Living Assistance Services and Deaconess Hospice—for their compassion and loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at New DeLisle Cemetery in Pass Christian.
