Carlie Mae Welch, age 97 of Biloxi, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016.
Born in Pensacola, FL, she was the oldest of eleven siblings and preserved through poverty and hardship including a stint in an orphanage during the Great Depression before being taken in by a loving foster family in North Mississippi. Making the most of that opportunity, she went on to lead a remarkably productive life. Her pleasant manners and cheerful outlook were infectious and little pleased her more than entertaining her family with her down home southern cooking. Mrs. Welch retired from Federal Civil Service after working as a secretary at Brookley and Keesler Air Force Bases and was a long time member of the Rodenburg Church of Christ.
Gracious matriarch of an extensive family and role model of Christian womanhood, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Welch and nine siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Reeves of Pensacola, FL; daughters, Roseanne Barlow (Jim) of Biloxi, MS, Carolyn Saucier (Steve) of Saraland, AL, Brenda Crew (Tom) of Long Beach, MS; son Olan Welch (Sue) of Biloxi, MS; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
A visitation will be held at 10 AM on Monday, February 29, 2016, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS, with funeral services beginning at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saraland, AL.
