Carl L. Pierce, 81, of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.
Born September 3, 1931, to Albert James Pierce, Sr., and Stella K. Schmidt, Mr. Pierce graduated from Gulfport High School and was a resident of the Handsboro community, where he was a lifelong member of Handsboro United Methodist Church. After graduation, Carl went to Coyne Diesel School in Chicago, IL. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, worked for Kerr McGill Oil of Morgan City, LA, and retired from Coast Materials concrete company. After his retirement, Carl went to work on the Ship Island Excursion vessels. He enjoyed his home garage where he would fabricate needed tools for the task-at-hand, and where he spent many days cracking and shelling pecans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John F. Pierce and Albert J. Pierce, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Pierce; children, Gary Pierce and his wife Allison of Gulfport, and Amy Pierce of Gulfport; grandsons, Jamie Pierce and his wife Julissa of Biloxi, and Matthew Pierce of Gulfport; and sisters-in-law, Anne Pierce of Gulfport, and Susie Pierce of Lively, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2:00 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Handsboro United Methodist Church, 2333 Demaret Drive, Gulfport, MS, 39507.
