Camella A. "Pat" Coker, 101, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 25, 2017 in Ocean Springs.
She was preceded in death by a son, James R. "Jimmy" Coker, Jr.; and husband James R. "Bob" Coker.
She is survived by daughter Patricia A. "Patty" Coker of Ocean Springs, formerly of Biloxi and Gulfport.
Pat was born in Gulfport on May 1, 1916, and graduated from Gulfport High School in 1933. She joined the civil service in her mid- 20's to do abstracting on Sardis Dam in Senatobia, MS. Later she worked with abstractors for Army Air Force Air Field for the expansion of runways for the first large bomber during WWII. She went to Vienna, Austria for the peace talks in 1946, where she met her future husband James R. Coker. Who was the Civilian Housing Officer for the Army. She continued working for civil service until his retirement in the mid 1960's.
On April 8, 1957, she had her son James R. "Jimmy" Coker, Jr. On January 31, 1956 while stationed in Germany, Patricia A. "Patty" Coker was born. She then returned to Biloxi, MS in 1960.
Pat was of the Catholic faith, and a member of Our Lady of Fatima, in Biloxi. She was an active member of the Woman's Auxilary of Joe Graham Post 119, and of the VFW Alfred Alleman Post No. 2539, both in Gulfport. A member of the Krewe of Gemini Mardi Gras Association in Gulfport, and Les Femm Mardi Gras Association in Biloxi, where she is a past queen from the early 1980's.
A visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with Recitation of the Rosary at 5pm.
A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, October 2, 2017 in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 am.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
"Please do not wear black for my funeral. Please wear white and rejoice with me or wear green and be envious of me, for I have gone to be with My Lord."
