Camala L. Fant, age 56, of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Camala was born April 22,1969 to Gerald Isabell and Bernadette Fant in Gulfport, Ms. She attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College after graduating from St. John High School. She was actively involved in St. Teresa CYO and participated in the Vogue Socialite Debutante presentation in 1986. She later relocated to Gretna, Louisiana, where she worked as a legal secretary.
In 1995, she graduated from Chris’s Beauty College and began her career in cosmetology, working at Cut Doctors before opening her own business, Cam’s Salon, in 1998. Committed to lifelong learning, she later returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from William Carey University.
She worked briefly at the Biloxi VA before dedicating herself to a calling rooted in compassion—serving as a caregiver for individuals with disabilities. In addition to her professional work, she also gave back to her community as a CCD teacher.
Camala Lachelle Fant was the kind of woman you could have around in any setting. She made people feel comfortable and at ease, bringing a sense of peace and security wherever she went. Her energy and connection with others were powerful—anyone she met would say how good she made them feel, because she truly loved making people feel good and look good. She was a hairdresser for over 20 years, and even then, she always strived to do more no matter what.
She was incredible and resilient, very intelligent, and deeply loved her family. She enjoyed cooking and parties with family and friends. She was the one who held everyone together through thick and thin, no matter who it was or what the situation was—she made everything stick. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Camala was preceded in death by her Grandmother (Adopted mother) Laura Fant; Daughter, Devon Fant; Father, Gerald Isabell; Uncles, Anthony, Joseph, and Robert Fant.
