Calvin Reginald Haynes, age 83 of Biloxi, Mississippi went to be with our Lord on October 15, 2012. Calvin was born January 24, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina.
Mr. Haynes spent his childhood and teenage years growing up in Seneca, South Carolina, where he excelled at basketball having made the state all high school team.
Upon leaving high school in 1946 Mr. Haynes joined what was then the Army-Air Force. He found one of his passions in life by serving his country in the military. After serving in the famed Berlin Air Lift, serving as a flight engineer, Mr. Haynes returned to the states and was stationed in Tacoma, Washington where he met the love of his life, Shirley J. Halverson. The two of them shared a passion for travel and sightseeing, and being with the military they were able to do the things they loved together.
Serving his country Mr. Haynes was afforded many unique assignments and received numerous awards including the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
Upon his retirement, having achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1972, Mr. Haynes found that he missed the service of the military and entered the Federal Civil Service serving his country once again as an instructor at Keesler Air Force Base. It was during this time that he completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. As an instructor he was presented with several awards and later served as a program director.
Mr. Haynes was afforded the opportunity to travel once more during this time by the United States Government and was assigned to Germany for a three year tour. Upon his return to Keesler, Mr. Haynes continued to work for the Civil Service until his medical retirement in 1991.
Mr. Haynes in total, spent 45 years doing what he loved for a career, as he often quoted ""make your avocation your vocation"". Mr. Haynes truly loved the military life and his family and who had a family who supported him one hundred per cent in his service to a country that he loved.
