Mr. Burnett A. Purvis, age 93, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Purvis was born to the late George W. and Lucy Brownlee Purvis in Laurel in 1915. He served in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He owned and operated Purvis Enterprise Fence Company for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theodore """"Teddy,"""" Warner, Wyatt, and Barney; sisters, Dollie, Lillie, Nonnie, and Johnnie.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Casey """"Kay"""" Cochran Purvis of Lyman; son, Charles W. Purvis and his wife Martha Sue Corley Purvis of Huntsville, AL; daughter, Jean Marie Purvis Ryan and her husband Jeffrey J. Ryan of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren, Bryan Purvis, William Purvis, and Carla Kay Davis; and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 1-3p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 10 am with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the V.A. Medical Center in Biloxi for their dedication and compassionate care.
