Buford J. “BJ” Cooper, Jr., of Long Beach passed away on August 29, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford J. Cooper, and Mary Ann Viator Cooper.

Buford is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Cooper; daughter, Tiffany Perez (David); grandsons, Roy and Guy; sister Pamala Lee (Donald); brothers, James and Joseph Cooper; sister, Marie Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.

Buford's journey began in the community of Biloxi, where he graduated from Biloxi High School, setting the stage for a lifetime of commitment and achievement.

Buford served our country with honor, dedicating eight years to the Marines during the Vietnam Era, and later continued his service in the Air Force Reserves, a career which he eventually retired from with distinction. His dedication to his country and the safety of others was further exemplified in his work at Keesler Air Force Base, where he was a vital member of the 403rd, specializing in aircraft maintenance with the hurricane hunters. Buford transitioned his expertise to Stennis Space Center as a rocket engine tester focused on safety and quality. In October 2009, he had his first retirement with an impressive 38 years of government service. Shortly after, he began working with Bastion Technologies, fulfilling his civil duties and did not fully retire until January 2017, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and commitment.

Beyond his professional achievements, Buford was a man of varied interests and talents. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, with fishing at the top of his list, gardening, and shared a special bond with his son-in-law through their mutual passion for bodywork and vehicle restoration. Buford earned many awards and accolades throughout his life, though he was ever humble about his achievements.

Buford's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Larosa, Dr. Mishra, and the dedicated nurses at Memorial Hospital, as well as Anvoi Hospice, for their compassionate care and support during Buford's final days.

His legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.

Visitation for Mr. Cooper will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach. The funeral service will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery.
