CPO Bruce John Kent, U.S. Navy, Ret, age 66 of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
Bruce was born in Chicago, Illinois, and enjoyed talking about going to 12 schools in 12 years as an Air Force brat, before settling in Gulfport and graduating from St. John High School in 1970.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was medically retired in 1985 as a Chief Petty Officer.
After his military career, he moved back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where he raised his family.
While in the Navy, he got a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and received his Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Bruce was a 100% Disabled Veteran and was a Peer Counselor with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of America. He was also the Past President of the Bayou/Gulf States Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and a member of the Elks Lodge 2624, Crestview, FL.
Bruce was preceded in death by his fathers, John P. Nasakaitis and H.L. Kent; and a son-in-law, Rick Lybrand.
He is survived and mourned by his wife, Crystal J Kent; daughters, Tracey (Brian) Quinn, Kelly Lybrand, and Kylene (David) Taylor; mother, Pauline Orr; grandchildren, Madison Lybrand, Lukas Taylor, Brooke Quinn, Carter Quinn, and Samuel Taylor; brother, Mike Nasakaitis; sisters, Kay Milinowicz, Deborah Buckles, Cindy Foree, and Pauline Kent-Williams; and numerous other family members.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with a visitation for family and friends from 5:00 PM until the service. Burial with full military honors will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 9:00 AM at Biloxi National Cemetery.
