Bobby Ray Hammond, 78, of Gulfport went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on
Bobby was born in Albertville, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in chemistry. He also served 4 years in the United States Navy. He retired from Reichhold Chemical in Gulfport where he held the position of plant manager. Bobby enjoyed planting a big garden and sharing its bounty. He loved working outside, helping others, and watching his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide play football. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Dewey Hammond, and his brother,
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Villa Hammond; his daughter Regina Langston and her husband Lucky; his son Tim Hammond and his wife Dawn; grandchildren Melanie Langston,
Stephanie (Ryan) Tapp, Justin Hammond, and Tyler Hammond; and twin great-grandsons, Riley and Hayden Tapp. He is also survived by his sister Marie (Bill) Aughtry of Greenville, Texas; and brothers
Jim (Sylvia) Hammond of Elkins, West Virginia, Lelias Hammond of Talladega, Alabama, and Milford Hammond of West Jefferson, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Bobby was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for 48 years where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee, choir member, and custodian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1294, Gulfport, MS 39502,
or New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 17430 Landon Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, at 11:30 A.M. at New Hope Baptist Church, 17430 Landon Road, Gulfport. Friends may visit beginning at 9:30 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
