Bobby Joe Dunwoody, Sr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
Bobby was born and raised in Memphis, TN where he graduated from Humes High School. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He met his wife Mary and the two have been married for 57 years.
In 1966 they moved to Gulfport where he managed Checks, Inc. Upon retirement, Bobby and Mary opened a wallpaper business called "A Brand New Touch." They enjoyed hanging wallpaper together until they chose to fully retire.
Bobby was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Lyman. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and assisting with the Backpack Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Dunwoody, and brother, Johnny Dunwoody.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Paige Whitlow and husband Michael of Diamondhead; his son, Jody, and wife Olivia of Gulfport; grandchildren Chase Richardson of Clinton, Lacee Richardson of Diamondhead, his newest grand baby Emmy Dunwoody of Gulfport; and a sister, Lynn Dunwoody, of Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church of Lyman Backpack Ministry. Donations can be sent to 14321 Old Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39503.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Lyman on Saturday February 25, 2017 from 2:00 to 3:00 with a service immediately following.
