On Friday, February 20, 2026, Bobbie Ann Scarborough peacefully made her way home at the age of 85.
She was a devoted wife and mother for 66 years, and she embraced life with a spirit that was bold, generous, and endlessly determined.
Her story with Albert Scarborough began in Gulfport, Mississippi, at a little restaurant called Park and Eat. What started as a simple moment between two young people grew into a lifelong partnership filled with adventure, resilience, and deep affection. They later married while attending Mississippi State University, beginning a journey that carried them across states, communities, and countless memories.
One of their earliest adventures came when Albert moved ahead to Anchorage, Alaska for work. Once he was settled, Bobbie Ann loaded up the station wagon with Tom and Bryant, and drove seventeen hundred miles along the rugged Alcan Highway — alone — to reunite their family. It was the first of many moves across the South and throughout Texas, each one met with her trademark courage and determination.
Bobbie Ann didn’t simply live in the world; she worked tirelessly to improve it. When she saw a need, she acted. Sometimes that meant rescuing stray animals, but often her efforts reached far beyond that. After moving to Pinehurst, North Carolina, she recognized the community’s need for a rescue squad and became instrumental in establishing one. She threw herself into every aspect — planning, fundraising, building — and went on to earn her EMT license, becoming one of the first women in the area to do so. The rescue squad became such a vital part of the community that the Village of Pinehurst honored her with a plaque that still stands in the village center today.
Alongside her service to others, Bobbie Ann carried a profound artistic gift. She was a deeply talented artist whose creativity flowed through every medium she touched — oil painting, watercolor, charcoal sketching, sculpting, and pen & ink work. Her art was more than a hobby; it was an extension of her spirit. She painted the world as she saw it: full of color, movement, and quiet beauty. Her pieces now live in the homes of family and friends, cherished reminders of her imagination, her patience, and the way she captured life with both precision and heart.
To know Bobbie Ann was to be welcomed. Everyone she met became an instant friend, drawn into her wide and generous circle. She gave freely — her time, her energy, her possessions — believing that helping others was simply part of who she was.
Bobbie Ann is survived by her husband, Albert Scarborough; her children, Bryant and his wife Trish, Tom and his wife Wendy, Mark and his wife Julie, and Robin Halek and her husband Andy; nine grandchildren; one great‑grandchild; and her beloved siblings. She leaves behind a legacy of service, courage, creativity, and love that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that her extraordinary spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, the communities she strengthened, and the artwork that forever carries her hand and her heart.
