Blanche Warren Clements, age 85, died on April 21, 2013.
Blanche was born on November 30, 1927, in Sandy Hook, MS, the fifth of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Liberty Warren. She was raised in Sandy Hook and graduated from Columbia High School. She thereafter attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, MS, and in 1947, she moved to Gulfport. While in Gulfport, she met and married her first husband, Dr. Fred H. Walker, and her travels with him took her to Oxford, MS, Houston, TX, Jackson, MS, and back to Gulfport. During this time, she gave birth to their four children.
Blanche worked an entire career at both the Gulfport and Biloxi Veterans Administration (VA) Hospitals and was the first Patient Representative appointed by the director to serve in the newly created position. She was a past recipient of the prestigious ""Hands and Heart"" award, given annually to the VA employee who provides the most emotional support, help, and guidance to the veterans.
Blanche was very patriotic, always proud of her country, and a great believer in American exceptionalism. She devoted her working life to serving the veterans of U.S. military service and will be buried in the historic Warren Family Cemetery which houses the graves of family members who have fought in virtually every war in which the U.S. has been involved, including the American Revolution. Blanche valued honor, human dignity, and individual responsibility. She also enjoyed college football, preferably Ole Miss, pro football, mostly the Saints, and all the Mannings.
Blanche was preceded in death by her second husband, Dr. Kenneth Clements, three brothers, John Warren, Cliff Warren, and Hugh Warren, as well as her two sisters, Emily Warren and Betsy Warren Mehl. She is survived by her children, Liberty (Libby) Bell, Rebecca Luke, Haden Walker, and Bill Walker, and her grandchildren, Jennifer Lee, Haden Lundy, Tim Walker, Tyler Walker, and Josh Luke, and her great grandchildren, Owen Walker, Knox Walker, Maxwell Walker, Emily Franklin, and Laken Lee.
She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport. The funeral service will be held on April 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, MS, where friends and family may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow in the Warren Family Cemetery in Sandy Hook.
