Billy Joe Baker, age 77, a native of Big Laurel, Kentucky and a resident of Gulfport, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in Pascagoula, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Baker.
Billy is survived by his mother, Nell Baker of Owensboro, KY; his siblings, Donald (Holly) Baker of West Palm Beach, FL, Jacqueline (Jerry) Kolbe of Hermann, MO, Dwight (Patty) Baker of Owensboro, KY; his nephews, Ed (Kathy) Sawyers of Gilbert AZ, Stephen (Jamie) Baker of West Palm Beach, FL; and his niece, Deborah Baker (Jim) Rose of West Palm Beach, FL.
Billy is a graduate of Loyal High School, Loyal, KY and served twenty two years in the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Chief Gunner's Mate. He attended specialized military training including six PMS schools. His duties included repair, maintenance, operation and inspection of various naval guns and all associated ordnance equipment.
The family of Billy Baker would like to express our thanks to the following while he was in their care, Memorial Hospital Gulfport, Ocean Springs Nursing and Rehab Center, Ocean Springs Hospital, and Singing River Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Pascagoula. A special thank you to the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Gulfport for your care, concern and respect given during Billy Baker's six years residency at the home. A heartfelt and sincere thanks to Master Chief Paul Wise and Linda Smith, Social Services Department and the personnel at the Security Desk for their helpfulness and concern given to our family while making arrangements.

A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 in Biloxi National Cemetery. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport is serving the family.
