Betty Jo Smith

Betty Jo Cauley Smith, age 92, of Biloxi, passed away on January 24, 2023. 

Mrs. Smith was born in Scarboro, GA to Alvin James and Molly Joyner Cauley. She married a military man, Donal Lee Smith, and moved to the Coast in 1970 where they settled down and made their home.  She was a waitress in Biloxi, working at the Broadwater, White Pillars, and McElroy’s.  She was a member of Bay Vista Baptist Church, which she loved, until her health prevented her from attending.  She was known as “Meme” to everyone, and she will be remembered for her sweet and happy spirit, her love of gardening, and family reunions.  She treasured her time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donal Lee Smith; son, Bennett Lee Smith; her parents; and her three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Epperson (Dale) and Cindy O’Neill (Mike); sister, Catherine Powell; and four grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Stokes, Olivia O’Neill Black (Dylan) and Leah O’Neill.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, from 10:00-11:30am.  Funeral services will follow at 11:30am. 

Burial will be at Biloxi National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the caregivers that lovingly took care of Meme from Southern Magnolia Manor and the Tradition Hospice team.
