Betty Cheryl James

Betty Cheryl James, age 76, of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Gulfport.

Mrs. James was a graduate of Pearl High School and has been a long-time resident of Gulfport. She worked for an extended time as an Administrator in the pediatric offices of Dr. William J. Carr and Dr. Fauzia Quddus. She enjoyed gardening, Long Beach baseball, playing piano, camping and baking.

Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Billy C. James, Jr.; and her parents, Bettie Laverne Layton and Jimmie Milton Layton.  She is survived by her children: son, Jimmy Douglas James and his wife, Jennifer, of Long Beach; daughter, Traci LeAnn Murray and her husband, Glen, of Bay St. Louis; and son, Michael Ryan James of Seattle, Washington; her brother, Joseph Daniel Layton and his wife, Joanie; her grandchildren, Layton Flynn James, Rebecca Murray Copeland and husband, Tim, and Elisabeth Ashley Murray; her great-grandchildren, Amelia June Copeland and Timothy James Copeland; her brother-in-law, Bryce Kevin James; her cousin, Sondra Gayle Smith; and her beloved pets, Mogie and Cecil.

Friends are invited to join Betty's family for a Gathering Party, to be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
